Michael D Orr, CEO and President

Mike Orr’s tenure in the trucking industry extends over forty years and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities. Beginning his career as a management trainee, he was steadily promoted and soon named a distribution center manager, accountable for five terminals and more than 200 employees. During this time, he managed sales, customer service, operations, safety and profit/loss activities for all terminals under his direction.

As President and CEO for the Midstates companies, Orr leads internal operations, sales and marketing efforts, along with supervising all carrier development activities for logistics management services. Before co-founding Midstates, Orr was general manager and an owner in Volunteer/Sprint Cartage where he managed the break bulk terminal operations for Volunteer Express as well as supervised the pickup and delivery operations for Sprint Cartage. In these roles, he achieved unprecedented profitability and revenue growth for the companies while implementing a successful employee safety program that dramatically reduced workers’ compensation and general liability claims.

Prior to that, Orr spent 15 years with ABF Freight Systems, Inc., beginning as an account executive in the Colorado Springs office. Two years later he was promoted to terminal manager for their operations in Tucson and Nogales, Arizona, and soon thereafter named distribution center manager, responsible for departments of five terminals in Middle Tennessee and Kentucky. Orr graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Business degree and a double major in transportation and marketing.
